Two years ago I started work on a project that was professionally and personally important to me. I began the development of an educational bingo game that was based on the Social Science’s educational standards; and that was focused on making social awareness the key element to it. The idea to create an educational bingo game came to me when I was teaching and going to graduate school at the same time.

Social Justice was becoming a relevant and important topic to my teaching career. However, the ever-looming standards seemed like an impenetrable wall. So, I took key figures in American History and highlighted their noteworthy points through a game that was fun, creative, and all encompassing. Although just making the game felt like an accomplishment – the response and feedback that I’ve received has been even more rewarding. From students to adults, really anyone who plays this game, has enjoyed it and learned from it. And, honestly, that’s what makes me the happiest.

Since the launch of my game, I have won the Creative Child’s Game of the Year for Classroom Products. I recently applied for three other awards and I’ve begun work on the second game.

This bingo game is more than just a game — it’s the chance to bring social studies, social justice, and the standards together into one useful and successful educational tool.
